Hmmm any genre...
Anything by Tom Clancy
Terry Brooks's Shanarra series'
Piers Anthony's Xanth books
Richard Marcincko's Rogue Warrior (1st one is autobiographical, rest are novels)
Bill O'Reilly- Culture Warrior
Everything by James Clavell (loved every one of them)
David and Leigh Eddings- Belgariad series (5 books), Mallorean series (5 books following the Belgariad), Elenium series (3 books, unrelated to Belgariad and Mallorean) and the Tamuli series (3 books, following Elenium)
Hmmm... those should get you started anyway... Could offer more suggestions if I knew what you were most interested in. The above are just a few on the shelves at the Ro-Tracyish house. We got tons, though, and bookshelves from floor to ceiling all over the house. So, you want more suggestions at some point, let us know...*grins*

Rober Jordan Wheel of Time series, if you like Science Fantasy.
Louis L'Amour (spelling folks?) Westerns, have a suprising bit of history in them. The Belgariad series Ro mentioned are great also. Not being nosy but what is you age? Helps before I suggest some books that might be inappropriate.

The redwall series, I first read them all in 5th grade, but I read them often now if I want a good book. It sounds dumb :p but its about woodland creatures fighting off sea-rat tyrants..great series, I'd start with "Redwall" by Brian Jacques, only about 400 page books, decently hard reading level and the feasts are amazing..I get so hungry when I read, theres about 15 of them and Iv'e read each about 10 times, great books :)

If you like Asimov and Heinlein, Robert Silverberg is another who is phenomenal. I don't have any of his books currently and haven't read them in a long time (about 15 years or so), but he is a class act.

This series is amazing - sort of fictional anthropology.

Heh, it's not a matter of making her read... Many are the times I've gone in to check on her during the night and found her still up reading... or passed smooth out with a book still in hand. Gotta say, though, she comes by it honestly.

One time K.C. (sftbllgrl3) was picking on me cuz i really liked the Warriors books by Erin Hunter and they're about wildcats, then my mom asked her what her book was about... She turned bright red and I just barely heard her say "woodland critters." lol

I read Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat in ISS (In-school suspension) last year. Greatest book I've read so far.
I was sort of historical because it was set in like the 1950s or 60s. I dunno. It was like an autobiographical documentary thing.
I liked it.

Haha Zero
08-14-2007, 09:53 PM
Yes the Wheel of Time by Robert Jorden has been mentioned, excellent books
The Sword of Truth is also good by Terry Goodkind. kinda like WOT but less intense.
Also The DragonLord Series by Joanne Bertin, the land ruledish by Weredragons
The RuneLords by David Farland, people can add attributes like glamor and wit to their lords in times of war.
And for the comical books you cant beat ALL the books by James Alan Gardner

Picked up a good non-fiction book not long ago, if you're into the genre it's a great one... It's called Blue Blood by Edward Conlan. He's a working class guy, Irish heritage, native New Yorker... educated at Harvard, he's a cop in the City. If you like real-life kinda cop stories, none of the Hollywood, Miami Vice/CSI or crap like that, then this might be for you.
Back to the military genre, Orr Kelly's book Never Fight Fair!, Chuck Pfarrer's book Warrior Soul and the book First Seal by Roy Boehm are all fantastic first person accounts of the U.S. Navy SEALs. There is a new one out from a SEAL who was in Afghanistan recently, but I cannot at the moment recall the name or the author. I recently heard an interview with the fellow on the radio and will try to find it out and relay it to you.

only just read but try ice station by matthew riley. and then the next in the series and the next.... o and every other book by him like seven ancient wonders of the world. both are fast pace action books and there all written by matthew. who is an australian kick **** (word i can't say) author. then try some bryce courtney who is different altogether. he writes about racism and subjects to do with that. try the power of one its pretty good, or jessica or even the potatoe factory.
